20 Questions With Jim Bridges
Of State Farm

by Steve Gamel

When Jim Bridges opened his State Farm agency in Bartonville in 2011, he saw it as an opportunity to not only meet all of his clients’ insurance needs from A to Z but to also show how much he cares about family and having a positive impact on his community. More than just another salesman, Jim was the first person elected to the Lantana Homeowner’s Association and over the years has steadfastly supported a variety of community organizations and non-profits. For those who are longtime clients and friends, it is Jim’s ability to marry community and business that helps him stand head and shoulders above the rest.

In a recent interview with Lantana Living, Jim was gracious enough to play a game of 20 Questions, where he dished on everything from his worst trait to his favorite song to sing when everyone’s looking.

Why did you get into insurance?

It was a lifelong dream since I was a little, bitty boy. Not really, but it sounds good, doesn’t it?

The relationships I get to build with my clients.

What is your least favorite thing about your job?

Taking phone calls from family members of clients who did not have life insurance.

If you couldn’t sell insurance, what would you do?

I would be a fishing guide for movie stars.

What is your least favorite trait about yourself?

I’m too caring.

You are a big part of the Lantana community. Why is that so important to you?

I just want to give back. My community has been so good to me.

What’s your favorite color?

What’s your favorite movie?

What is your favorite food?

If you are stuck in an elevator with one person, who would it be?

Morgan Bridges, because she’s the prettiest girl I know.

What’s your deepest darkest secret?

I use a wood-pellet smoker for my brisket and ribs.

If you had to karaoke one song in front of a packed crowd, what would it be?

“Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes” by George Jones.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve been injured?

I once slammed the car door on my finger.

What is your favorite trait about yourself?

My humility.

Do you have an unusual talent?

I do amazing BBQ.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve seen your kids do?

My 3-year-old got mad because I got her a chicken biscuit instead of a doughnut while we were on vacation, so she threw the chicken biscuit off the sixth-floor balcony of our hotel room.

Would you fold laundry or do the dishes?

Fold laundry, because all the cooking I do makes a huge mess.

Who is funnier, you or your wife?

I am.

Who or where would you haunt if you were a ghost?

I would haunt Mike Luzader for the rest of his life, everywhere he went. He’s a good buddy of mine.

Captain America or Iron Man?

Captain America.
